{"id":1008,"date":"2015-10-29T11:07:14","date_gmt":"2015-10-29T11:07:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.michaelfallon.org.uk\/?p=1008"},"modified":"2015-10-29T11:07:14","modified_gmt":"2015-10-29T11:07:14","slug":"welcome-winter-plans-from-southeastern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.michaelfallon.org.uk\/?p=1008","title":{"rendered":"Welcome Winter Plans from Southeastern"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_878\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-878\" style=\"width: 617px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelfallon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/london-bridge.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-878\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michaelfallon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/london-bridge.jpg\" alt=\"Inspecting the work in progress at London Bridge Station\" width=\"617\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.michaelfallon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/london-bridge.jpg 2592w, http:\/\/www.michaelfallon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/london-bridge-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.michaelfallon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/london-bridge-1024x764.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.michaelfallon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/london-bridge-624x466.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-878\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Michael inspecting the work\u00a0at London Bridge Station earlier this year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Michael has welcomed Southeastern\u2019s commitment to introduce a number of measures to minimise disruption for commuters from the Sevenoaks constituency this autumn and winter.<\/p>\n<p>Michael\u00a0wrote to Southeastern\u2019s Managing Director, David Statham, earlier this month to seek assurances about what plans Southeastern has to mitigate the impact of poor weather conditions on train performance.<\/p>\n<p>In his response, Mr Statham stated that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An additional three water jetting trains have been allocated to Kent this year by Network Rail to remove leaf debris;<\/li>\n<li>Additional trackside equipment has been placed in areas that have caused serious disruption to journeys in the past to reduce the risk of disruptive incidents;<\/li>\n<li>Southeastern will run empty trains through the night to keep tracks clear of ice;<\/li>\n<li>Network Rail has installed heaters and NASA grade insulation to points at key locations and protective covers to points and point motors to keep snow out and prevent damage by ice falling from trains;<\/li>\n<li>Southeastern has invested in hand-held mechanical snow ploughs to keep platforms, car parks and forecourts free of ice and snow;<\/li>\n<li>Southeastern has reached agreement with Kent County Council to use its resources to ensure that station approach roads are kept clear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On 4<sup>th<\/sup> October, Southeastern also introduced some changes to their timetable to take account of changing weather conditions and give passengers more certainty about arrival times.<\/p>\n<p>Michael\u00a0said: &#8220;I welcome the assurances that Southeastern have given me.\u00a0 They believe they are better equipped for poor weather conditions than before.\u00a0 But I will be continuing to monitor their performance to ensure that any problems that develop during the autumn and winter are dealt with as quickly and effectively as possible so that my constituents suffer the minimum of disruption.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael has welcomed Southeastern\u2019s commitment to introduce a number of measures to minimise disruption for commuters from the Sevenoaks constituency this autumn and winter.
