The letter also seeks specific assurances on proposed cuts affecting schoolchildren.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese services are vital for elderly people, allowing them to get into town and go shopping, visit relatives or attend doctor appointments\u201d, the letter reads. \u201cSchoolchildren, disabled people and low earners also face being cut off.\u201d<a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelfallon.org.uk\/?attachment_id=2055\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2055\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2055\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michaelfallon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Vintage-Bus-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Vintage Bus\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we commend the considerable savings KCC has made in recent years \u2013 necessitated by the highest budget deficit in decades left behind by Labour \u2013 we urge you to explore other practical options that avoid cutting these vital bus services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The MPs highlight other recent cuts to routes by KCC and commercial operators, arguing that further cuts are understandably causing concern among constituents. They also point out that KCC\u2019s plans contradict stated environmental aims, as well as the principles of many local quality bus partnerships the local authority has signed up to.<\/p>\n<p>The letter concludes: \u201cIn some areas the cuts to subsidized buses will cause significant disruption and place extra pressure on other services that are already crowded at peak times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have already seen the problems caused by commercial operators\u2019 changes to services in some areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur constituents tell us that further reductions by KCC create a real risk of people having to give up work, that elderly people will be isolated, and children will be unable to travel to school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, we urge KCC to fully explore alternative options \u2013 and that serious consideration is given to scrapping these plans, or at least reducing their scale.
