Britain voted to the leave the EU; so did Sevenoaks. \nThat\u2019s why in Parliament I\u2019ve spoken and voted against simply re-running the\nreferendum. The government is committed to respecting the result and\nsecuring an orderly withdrawal: the Leave campaign itself argued that leaving\nmust be \u201ca careful change, not a sudden stop\u201d. We need to avoid\nrisking damage to our economy and potential disruption here in Kent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All sides have recognised the flaws in the original Withdrawal\nAgreement. It treats Northern Ireland differently; it doesn\u2019t allow us to\nexit the trade negotiations if talks fail next year; and it doesn\u2019t spell out\nclearly how we can still trade smoothly in goods and services once we have\nleft. I therefore want to see a better, fairer Agreement, and if it\nis improved I will support it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I appreciate that the Parliamentary processes have been frustratingly slow.\u00a0 But we have been in the EU for forty-six years: undoing existing co-operation in trade, security, technology and research was always going to be complicated.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For the sake of our futures we must get it right.\u00a0 <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
