It will\nmean EE, O2, Three and Vodafone will invest \u00a3530 million in a network of new\nand existing phone masts they would all share and which any mobile user can\naccess and which would be supported by \u00a3500 million investment from Government.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sir Michael backed this cross-party\ninitiative and wrote to the then\nSecretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Jeremy Wright MP\nasking him to support a Shared Rural Network which would significantly improve\nrural coverage and enhance economic, educational and leisure opportunities in\nrural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sir Michael said:&nbsp; \u201cMy constituents in rural areas cannot be cut\noff because of where they live.&nbsp; Our\nlocal economy depends on people being connected online \u2013 this initiative will\nhelp more people stay connected with fast and reliable mobile coverage.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A final agreement between\nGovernment and the mobile industry is expected early next year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The new plans for all operators to share phone masts to improve UK coverage is a world first.
