MP supports local Scouts in adult leadership drive
Michael has thrown his support behind the local Scout Group in its bid to recruit new adult leaders. Ash Green Scout Group has seen its membership more than double over recent months to more than 80 young people and now the focus is on attracting new adult volunteers so that more young people can join the movement in the village. Mr Fallon was so impressed when he heard about the efforts of the young people that he invited them and their leaders to meet him at the House of Commons to find out more about their plans. Representatives of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts were treated to a tour of the Houses of Parliament before meeting their MP to tell him about their campaign and hand him their first recruitment flyer. Said Mr Fallon: “What really impresses me is that the young people themselves are involved in this recruitment campaign. They are going out to find their own leaders by putting on an Open Morning for prospective adults in New Ash Green Village Hall on 16th January as well as leafleting the entire area to ask for help. “Volunteering for organisations such as the Scouts and other youth groups is doubly rewarding. You are putting something back into the community by helping young people become better citizens as well as getting a lot of personal fulfilment by doing your bit for the area.” Ash Green’s Group Scout Leader Gary Davies added: “We are thrilled with Mr Fallon’s support. The invitation to tour the House of Commons was something that we shall always remember and we are grateful he is backing our campaign.” The recruitment campaign starts on 6th January and culminates on 16th January with the Open Morning in the Village Hall where prospective leaders will see the young people go through their paces.
