Rt Hon Sir Michael Fallon KCB, the former Defence Secretary, retired from Parliament at the last election after 31 years as MP for Darlington and then Sevenoaks.  He served as a minister in four Conservative governments under Margaret Thatcher, John Major, David Cameron and Theresa May.

As Secretary of State for Defence from 2014 to 2017 he led the UK’s contribution to the Coalition against the Daesh; he began the British Army training of Ukrainian forces after the invasion of Crimea and launched the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).

Sir Michael is currently chairman of Aberdeen Standard Investcorp Infrastructure Partners (ASIIP);  non-executive chairman, Avanton Limited (property development);  deputy chairman, Nova Innovation Ltd (tidal and solar energy); a member of the international advisory board of Investcorp; and a consultant to other companies.

Sir Michael is a member of the Advisory Board of the Council on Geostrategy; a UK member of the Indo-Pacific Commission chaired by former Canadian PM Stephen Harper at Policy Exchange; and an advisory council member of the Centre for Policy Studies.  He writes, lectures and broadcasts on defence, security and international affairs (see here).   He also reviews books on classics and ancient history for Classics For All.

He is President of the Friends of St Mary’s Church, Sundridge.  He served as President of the Royal Society for Blind Children from 2010 to 2024.
